The Department of Hospitality and Retail Management in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure track Assistant/Associate Professor of Practice to begin September 1, 2026. Applicants should have expertise in fashion merchandising and retail.
Major/Essential Functions
At Texas Tech University, the Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Primary responsibilities normally will be to teach in an area of expertise, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program.
In line with TTU's strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.
Required Qualifications
As a faculty member in the Department of Hospitality and Retail Management, you will be expected to:
- Candidates must hold a Master's Degree (MS) in merchandising and retail or closely related degree.
- We invite applicants with teaching interests in fashion merchandising, retail, CPG, apparel, and/or textiles. Candidates should have a demonstrated record or a record indicative of teaching in an academic environment, preferably at the college level.
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:
- A Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) (or earn a Ph.D by August 31, 2026) in fashion merchandising and/or retail or closely related degree.
- A strong history of retail industry experience.
- Experience with and interest in teaching wide variety of retail related courses.
- A strong commitment to excellence in teaching (evidenced by positive teaching evaluations, teaching awards, etc.).
- Ability to teach in a multi-disciplinary environment.
