Under the direction of and reporting to the Unit Manager, responsible for the operation and control of a unit. Supervises and trains regular, intermittent and student employees. Monitors service, portion control, quality, production control, sanitation and housekeeping, preventative maintenance, inventory levels, food transfers and cash handling procedures. Hire student assistants, and assist in the hiring of regular employees. Recommend new products, equipment and supplies.
Minimum Qualifications
High school degree or the equivalent
Minimum four years of food service experience, including two years in directing the work of other food service employees
Completion of a supervisor training course with a minimum of 20 hours duration may be substituted for six months of supervisory experience
Possession of a valid California Driver's License and satisfactory driving record
Must be able to understand oral and written communications; have a good knowledge of principles, techniques, terminology and procedures of a short order food service, related safety and sanitation standards, and effective personnel supervision
Become ServSafe certified within first year of service and maintain certification as required
Ability to use equipment: Cash register, validine machine, steam wells, microwaves, knives, warmer drawers, beverage machines, can opener, bag sealer, blenders, and computer terminal
Ability to develop successful working relationships with customers, employees and supervisors
Ability to perform complex, highly responsible and confidential duties
Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to prioritize, plan, organize, and meet time lines
Ability to lead others in managing tasks; train and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel

Typical Essential Functions
Supervise, train, and evaluate, all regular and student assistants in food preparation, customer services, efficient work habits, reduction of waste and theft, appearance, portion control, sanitation, maintenance of equipment, following Cal Poly Corporation policies and procedures, to provide optimum service to our customers and a fiscally sound operation
Hire student assistants and assist in the hiring of regular employees following prescribed Cal Poly Corporation policies and procedures, to ensure adequate staffing needs are met
Perform the duties of any position when a regular or student employee is unavailable to perform the duties required, following prescribed procedures to ensure jobs are completed and customers are provided with optimum service
Monitor food presentation, merchandising techniques, customer comments and complaints, in an effort to improve service to customers and to generate additional sales
Supervise unit of responsibility which entails developing menu ideas, food presentation, product ordering, merchandizing and staffing
Research, develop, test and introduce new products to sell, under the direction of your Manager, to increase variety and quality of foods served
Maintain safe and sanitary facilities. Watch for potential safety hazards such as spills on floors or improper lifting procedures. Follow prescribed safety and sanitation procedures to ensure compliance with health regulations, safety standards and maximize a neat, clean, appearance in the minds of our customers
Monitor the cashiers' cash handling techniques and processing of meal tickets to ensure that correct policies and procedures are followed as set down by the Cal Poly Corporation, to ensure that all sales are accurately accounted for on a daily and weekly basis
Complete in a timely manner the following paperwork to include but not limited to labor reports, time cards, labor schedules, student job descriptions, employee evaluations, employment eligibility verification (I-9) forms, W-4 forms, food products and supply requisitions, interdepartmental transfers of supplies and maintenance work orders, under the direction of your supervisor in order to account for and control food and labor costs, to comply with labor laws and to maintain equipment in working order
Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor in an effort to provide optimum service to customers at all times

Supervise up to 25 student assistants at a time and up to three regular full time employees
Directly supervise assigned employees. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Corporation's policies and applicable laws and regulations
Supervise the daily activities of the department, including but not limited to, effective delegation of assignments, training and resources necessary to meet performance standards and assist employees in improving performance relevant to job requirements
Develop and implement an effective performance and department goals and objectives, provide performance evaluations, and implement appropriate counseling
Direct and monitor employees to ensure that they remain in compliance with policies and procedures
Subordinates may include: Assistant Supervisor, regular employees, student and intermittent employees
